New York Fashion Week Backstage 2022

Blog community, I am back! This year turned into a hectic one of many projects and assignments. There are still so many campaigns that haven’t even launched yet! But I am happy to be back and updating you with the most recent New York Fashion Week. This fashion week was one for the books. I was so thrilled to be back in action covering NYFW with my IMG team and Coach’s social team. My schedule was filled with a variety of designers including Christian Siriano, Dauphinette, Social Work and of course Coach. It had been a couple seasons since shows were full flushed out into the backstage madness and runway chaos, but I quickly adjusted to the fast pace nature.

COACH

I arrived early to photograph the empty set and watch rehearsal. This is always exciting to see the elaborate runway and theme that sets the tone for the show. Carl the Afghan opened the show and we couldn’t have asked for a better hair model. Am I right? Models wore whistles around their necks and wore graffiti trench coats. Part of fashion week is trying to be in 20 places at once: backstage, first looks, runway, front row etc. I ran back in forth between them all, to make sure I was capturing as much content as possible to showcase all aspects of the fashion show taking place. Shooting for the social team means being able to give the inside scoop and access that isn’t seen by all the guests. Like finishing touches backstage or Meg thee Stallion meeting Angus Cloud for the first time. Being present for these moments is exciting as a fan of fashion and entertainment. Having just seen the latest episode of Euphoria, it was taking all of me not to ask Angus about Lexi’s play. After the show I spent time backstage with Meg as she was interviewed by E!. Stuart Vevers surprised Meg with a birthday cake, made to look like the Tabby bag, and I was lucky enough to photographed the moment we all sang to her backstage. A perfectly intimate experience captured. Thousands of photos later, images were shared on social and everyone had thoughts on Angus and Meg eating hot Cheetos in the front row. I mostly just wanted to know why didn’t I get any?

DAUPHINETTE

This show was unlike no other. Hosted at Lee’s on Canal, Dauphinette showcased a diverse group of models that wore everything from bug patterns to swans on their head. I would have loved to seen the first sketches of this collection or just a glimpse into the magical mind of the designer. Her vision is so unique and the clothes brought a sense of color and joy that often gets missed during fashion week. The small nature of the venue allowed me to interact more with the models and capture content for IMG that was unique and showcased all aspects of the collection from details, rehearsal and the presentation.

CHRISTIAN SIRIANO

This show was the first on my schedule for fashion week fall 2022. Held at the iconic Empire State Building, Siriano presented an ever so chic collection paired with blue eyeshadow looks created by Charlotte Tilbury. Sofia Tilbury herself was backstage working on Coco Rocha. After I felt I had enough makeup and hair content, I made my way to the basement of the Empire State Building to get my spot on the runway. I took out my little stool and sat down in the front row of the photo pit. Changed my lenses in preparation for Siriano’s classic gowns and volume to take up the runway.

SOCIAL WORK

Social-Work was my last show of the week for IMG. I was invited as a guest so I was intrigued what the access was going to look like or even what the presentation would be like. Held in the stunning art furniture store Love House on Sullivan St., social-work had models mixed in with the art and furniture so seamlessly that it felt like you walked into someone’s living room party. I was captivated by the details and texture of the clothes and space and felt inspired to present them together when showing them on my Instagram.
